I've encountered a strange problem, I bet it's some weird setting somewhere - the problem is I just don't know where to look. There are some sites I can't view at all and some that doesn't load properly. To name a few, I can't load doom3.com, roadrun.com, adobe.com, macromedia.com and gamespy.com doesn't load properly, see the screenshot.

Normally I use Maxthon, because of it's tabs, pop-up block and IE compability. It won't load these sites, neither will IE. I don't wanna go and try Firefox and Opera, I think it's the same problem with those. I'm running ZoneAlarm 4.5.530.000 and Spy Sweeper 2.6.1, maybe it's a setting there, but I've already messed around with the settings there a couple of times, and nothing have worked.

I need some Windows-guru to help me out

Thanks in advance

Lasse,

All those sites use some form of Flash animation when the home page loads. I'd check your Flash plugin installation.

FWIW, they all load fine for me, and I've got ZA Security Suite set to all medium or higher settings.

EDIT: Using IE 6

I uninstalled Flash and deleted the keys in the registry. After some Googling I deleted the 2 ActiveX controls in System32\Macromedia\Flash: flash.ocx and swflash.ocx I think they were called. I rebooted and had the same problem, I reinstalled Flash then, but still the same problem. I still can't load the sites. It's driving me nuts! What if it was this site I couldn't load - arrgh!

Another weird problem I think's related. deftones.com tells me to install the flash 6 plugin, but I have flash 7 installed and other sites loads just like they should with the flash animations etc.

Need...further...guidance...

Do you have any security settings or cookie blockers set up in IE?
I'm asking because I went to gamespy.com and the areas that weren't rendering in your screenshot showed ads from doubleclick.net for me.
Some of the protection software will also block known adservers/spyware cookies, such as doubleclick.

I know ZoneAlarm is set to block ads and pop-ups and -unders. Maxthon also does this. Actually gamespy looks worse in IE than Maxthon, the bar in the top doesn't even load in IE. IE is set up to block 3rd part cookies, I tried to disable it, but the problems were still there. It's also set to run everything or ask if something should be run.

It's just rescent it started doing this, I went to doom3.com about a week ago and there was no problem. Well it would be nice to figure it out, but I've set my mind on reformatting anyway when I get the Danish SP2.

If you can, try to remember the last thing that happened before this problem, and fix it. Or, if your brave, do a system restore, those really come in handy sometimes.

Try downloading another browser (Mozilla FireFox) and tell me if it happens with this browser too.

Clear all cookies and temporary internet files if not already done.

Does the problem occur is SafeMode? (As in "Safemode with Networking")

Yeah, check the system restore and see what happens.

System restore is off. I've never used that. All my data are on secondary disks. Like I said, I'll be reformatting when SP2 comes in Danish - problem solved (hopefully). I don't wanna spend anymore time on this, purhaps making it worse, but thanks a lot for the suggestions
